Corporate Profile
- DR. WILLY GAN (1946 - 2001)
Established in August 1994 by Dr. Willy N. Gan and Dr. William T. Torres, Mozcom was the result of a successful project undertaken by Computer Networks Systems Corporation (ComNet), Dr. Gan's company.
In 1993, ComNet was contracted by the Department of Science and
Technology to design and set up a wide-area network (WAN) connecting
various local universities and research organizations with each other and to
the Internet. Mozcom was the commercial offshoot of this project, becoming
the first Internet Service Provider (ISP) to offer different levels of connectivity to corporate and individual users. The Philippines' first leased line connection
to the Internet thus became "online" on March 29, 1994.
The Mozcom nationwide pure-IP backbone was the first of its kind, and to this day, provides the infrastructure that runs corporate virtual private networks (VPNs), the campus network of the major educational and research institutions, and provides true dialup roaming for mobile users from Northern Luzon to Southern Mindanao. The Mozcom Network (MozNet) was the 1st to introduce global roaming to the country through iPass. High-speed wired (copper, fiber) and wireless (microwave, satellite) links from different telcos provide true network redundancy.
MozNet is connected to the Internet via multiple DS3's circuits. It has direct peering arrangements with UUNet, Philippine Internet Exchange(PHIX), Globe Internet Exchange (GIX) and Bayantel National Internet Gaming Exchange (NIGX). As an Akamai Accelerated Network Partner, MozNet offers customers high-speed access to popular websites.
In the new millennium
As businesses, government, and academe progress in the use of Internet technology, Mozcom responds by setting up advanced video capabilities; adding data center and collocation facilities; and continuing to invest on the network, R&D and its people to maintain its competitive edge.
The company is expanding its software capabilities to provide total business solutions. Software technologies that we specialize in include: XML, Web Services, mobile applications, biometrics, e-commerce, smart cards, RFID, VoIP, anti-spam and anti-virus solutions.
Our highly competent technical, support and sales staff are certified by Cisco, Microsoft and Red Hat. Being telco-independent and service-focused allows us to provide best-of-breed and customized solutions for our clients.
Dr. Gan passed away in July 2001 but his vision and legacy lives on. Today, Mozcom continues to aggressively expand its infrastructure, and venture into content, e-commerce, and value-added services.
Attuned with the times
According to AC Neilsen, 4.5 million Filipinos out of a total population of 76.5 million have Internet access.
The pioneering spirit of Mozcom lives on in the lives of the modern day businessmen and consumer alike. The internet introduced new ways to market products to the world market, brought convenience and comforts to consumers in a new buying culture, introduced a new retailing concept online, and became a new media for entertainment and advertising.
Still at the forefront in the modern age of connectivity, Mozcom today is introducing technologies that matters to the lives of modern day Filipinos in the way we do business, and have fun. It is without doubt that the pioneering spirit thrives on the way it always had to progress lives, evident .through its 14 years of quality service and experience.
