iPassConnect Universal Client
iPassConnect gives mobile employees a simple, consistent connection experience
process across dial-up, wireless and broadband networks, using Windows
PCs, Mac OS, Palm devices and Pocket PCs. Not only does this enhance worker
productivity, it also helps reduce IT help desk calls.
To get started, download the software and launch the application. The
service interface allows you to easily select the country and city you
are in and view all available connection options (dial-up and broadband)
through the location-centric interface. Select the local access point
of your choice to connect to the Internet.

System/Hardware Requirements
An IBM-compatible PC with:
- Pentium III processor
- 256MB RAM
- 100MB free disk space
- TCP/IP Protocol
- 16-bit color mode or higher
- At least 12 MB free disk space
At least one connectivity device installed, depending on your intended
connection type:
- GSM modem for GSM connections
- ISDN terminal adapter for an ISDN connection
- 56K v90/92 modem for a dial-up connection
- PHS phone for PHS connections
- WLAN adapter for a WLAN connection
- Ethernet adapter for an Ethernet connection
- Mobile Data card for a Mobile Data connection
Installation Procedures
- Download the iPassConnect v3.50 software.
- Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the directory
where you stored the iPassConnect installer .exe file. Double-click
this file to install the dialer. - As a default, the files for iPass will be installed
in the destination directory "C:\Program Files\iPass\iPassConnect".
If you'd like to change its destination directory, click BROWSE, then
point to the directory where you want it stored. - Once installed, the iPassConnect icon will automatically
appear on your desktop.

Upgrading from previous versions (2.20 or later)
If an older version of the iPass dialer is already installed on your
computer, we recommend that you
first uninstall the old files and icons before performing the new installation.
To upgrade to iPassConnect v3.50, you must meet the systems requirements for version 3.50 and:
- You must have local administrator rights in order to upgrade to iPassConnect v3.50 from a release prior to iPassConnect 3.30
- Upgrades from version 3.30 or later to version 3.50 will not require admin rights
- Once an upgrade has taken place, any user (such as Power User or Restricted User) will be able to upgrade from v3.50 to any newer releases.
Uninstalling iPassConnect from Your Computer
- Click "Start -> Settings -> Control
Panel". Double Click on Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel
folder. - From the Add/Remove dialog, scroll down to iPassConnect
and double click on the selection. - A confirmation will appear, select "Yes"
to confirm the removal. Click "Okay" on the progress dialog
when it completes.

Installing iPassConnect v2.38 for Mac OS 10.0.3x, 10.1.15, 10.2.0 to 10.2.8
System/Hardware Requirements
Any of the following Macs with at least 4.5MB disk space and BSD subsystem installed:
- Power Mac G3 or G4

- iMac
- PowerBook G3 or G4

At least one connectivity device installed, depending on your intended
connection type:
- A modem for a dial-up connection

Installation Procedures
Download the
iPassConnect v2.38 software.
- Double-click the downloaded file.
- Follow the displayed directions.

Uninstalling iPassConnect from Your Computer
To uninstall the client, drag the iPassConnect icon from the Applications
folder into the Trash.

Installing iPassConnect v1.8 for Mac OS 9 or below
System/Hardware Requirements
Your system needs the following minimum requirements:
- Mac OS 8.6, 9.04, 9.1, 9.2
- Open Transport 2.6 or later
- Modem or ISDN adapter
Note: Latest versions of Open Transport are recommended and are available
from Apple Computer at http:// www.apple.com/support/.
Installation Procedures
- Download
the iPassConnect v1.8 software. - Double-click the executable file.
- Follow the directions on the screen; the installer
will create an iPassConnect folder that contains the client software
and the necessary configuration files.

To uninstall the client, drag the iPassConnect icon from the Applications
folder into the Trash.

Installing
iPassConnect v2.0
for PocketPC 2002
Device Requirements
To support the iPassConnect client software, your PDA must meet the following
minimum requirements:
- The Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 operating system
- At least 1.5 MB free disk space
- At least one connectivity device, depending on
your connection type:
- A modem for a dial-up connection
- An Ethernet card for a wired broadband connection
- An 802.11b wireless card for a wireless broadband connection.
Installation Procedures
Before the installation process, make sure that:
- Microsoft ActiveSync 3.5 or 3.6 is installed
on your PC (or laptop). - Your PDA cradle is connected to your PC.
You should then dock your PDA, and establish a partnership between the
PDA and PC
To install iPassConnect on your PDA:
- Download
the iPassConnect v2.0 for PocketPC 2002 software - On your PC, double-click the file to begin installation.
- Proceed through the installation wizard.
- Review the End User License Agreement. You must
accept the Agreement in order to install the software. - Your PC will communicate with your PDA. On the
Installing Applications dialog box, under "Install iPassConnect
using the default application install history?" click Yes. - After installing the client on your PC, check
your PDA screen to see if any additional steps need to be taken. Otherwise,
the installation process is now complete, and you will see an iPassConnect
icon on your PDA's Start menu. You are now ready to connect.

Uninstalling iPassConnect from Your Computer
- Dock your PDA in its cradle.
- On your PC or laptop, on the Start menu, choose
Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. This process will remove iPassConnect
from your PC and your PDA.
The iPassConnect client is now uninstalled.

Installing iPassConnect v1.02 for PalmOS
Note: You will need both a host computer as well as
a Palm OS compatible handheld device.
Host Computer Requirements
Minimum requirements:
0perating system support for the following versions of Windows 95, 98,
NT, 2000:
- Win95 OSR (original release) with Dial-Up Networking
1.2b or higher (1.3 is the latest). - Win95 OSR-1, 2, 2.1, 2.5 (a.k.a. Win95 "Gold")
- Win98 OSR (with or without Service Pack 1) and
Second Edition - WinNT Workstation 4.0 and Server 4.0 (with Service
Pack 3 or later....5 is the latest) - Windows 2000
iPassConnect for Windows 1.8 or later
Handheld Device Requirements
Minimum requirements:
- Palm OS HotSync Manager 3.0 or later
- Palm OS 3.0 and later compatible handheld device
- Palm OS compatible cradle or sync cable
- V90 compatible modem
Installation Procedures
- Download
the iPassConnect v1.02 software. - Connect your handheld to the host computer by
placing the device in its cradle or via a sync cable. - Launch Hot Sync Manager from \Start Menu\Programs
\Palm if it is not already active. - Double-click the executable file to start the
installation. Follow the directions on the screen. It is recommended
that you accept all default settings. - Once the installation has completed, perform a
manual HotSync by pressing the HotSync button on the cradle or from
the handheld device. - Next, choose "iPassSync for Palm OS"
from \Start Menu\Programs \iPass on the host computer. Note, this location
may be different depending on the application group selected during
installation in step 4. - Select and move POPs to the Handheld phonebook,
click "Save" and then exit the application. Note, the number
of POPs selected will increase the memory required on your handheld
device. We currently recommend selecting no mo re than 150 POPs. Additionally,
it is strongly recommend that users refresh their phonebook and resync
on a regular basis. - You must now perform another HotSync operation
as you did in Step 5.

Uninstalling iPassSync and iPassConnect PDA
- Open Start/Settings/Control Panel.
- Select Add/Remove Programs.
- Select iPassSync from the list.
- Select Remove from the InstallShield Wizard. iPassSync
is removed from the host computer. - From the handheld device's Application Launcher,
select Delete from the menu. - Select iPass and click Delete. iPassConnect PDA
is removed from the handheld device. - Click Continue. You are prompted for the Windows
NT CD-ROM again - When finished, select OK and reboot the PC when
prompted. - After installation is complete, reapply the Service
Pack. Note: Windows 5 is the latest and is available from http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/sp5/ - Install and Configure the iPass client.

Installing iPassConnect v1.02 for WinCE (old PocketPC)
Note: You will need both a host computer as well as
one of the following handheld devices:
- Compaq - Aero, IPAQ 3600 Series
- Casio Cassiopeia
- Hewlett Packard Jornada 500 series
Host Computer Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Operating system support for the following versions of Windows 95, 98,
NT, 2000:
- Win95 OSR (original release) with Dial-Up Networking
1.2b or higher (1.3 is the latest). - Win95 OSR-1, 2, 2.1, 2.5 (a.k.a. Win95 "Gold")

Windows) on your PC. - Download
the iPassConnect PDA for WinCE/Pocket PC installation executable - Connect your handheld to the host computer by
placing the device in its cradle or via a sync cable. - Launch ActiveSync Manager from \Start Menu\Programs
\Microsoft ActiveSync if it is not already active. - Double-click the executable file to start the
installation. Follow the directions on the screen. It is recommended
that you accept all default settings. - Once the installation has completed, perform a
manual Sync by clicking the Sync button on the ActiveSync screen on
your desktop. - Next, choose "iPassSync for CE" from
\Start Menu\Programs \iPass on the host computer. - Select and move POPs to the Handheld phonebook,
click Save . Clicking Save will start the synchronization process. Note:
the number of POPs selected will increase the memory required on your
handheld device. Up to 1000 POPs can be stored in the hand held phone
book.

Uninstalling iPassSync and iPassConnect PDA
- Open Start/Settings/Control Panel on your desktop
PC. - Select Add/Remove Programs.
- Select iPassSync from the list.
- Select Remove from the InstallShield Wizard. Be
sure to remove iPassSync and all its components when prompted.
