Biometrics
Biometrics refer to measurable, physical characteristics or personal behavioral traits used to recognize or verify the claimed identity of a person. Sensitive data or secured areas can be protected using biometrics; unlike traditional passwords or physical keys, biometrics cannot be lost or forgotten, and is always carried along by the owner wherever he goes.
Common physical attributes that are used for biometric identification are fingerprints and faces. The human fingerprint is inherently unique, and has been used by law enforcement agencies worldwide for centuries to verify identity. Recent advances in manufacturing and acceptance of the technology has made low-cost mass production of scanners possible. Facial recognition, on the other hand, is a newer development. It has the advantage of not requiring physical contact and solves the problem of individuals with poor-quality fingerprints.
Mozcom is the sole Philippine distributor of Neurotechnology biometric Software Development Kits (SDKs) which can be used for developing applications using fingerprint or facial recognition. Mozcom is also the reseller of DigitalPersona U.are.U fingerprint scanners and software.
Popular applications of biometrics include:
- Time-and-Attendance
- Physical Access Control
- Secure Identification Systems
Time and Attendance
Companies traditionally rely on mechanical devices like the bundy clock to keep track of employee attendance, or worse, manual logbook keeping. Such processes, however, are prone to abuse because they cannot verify the identity of the person. Certain industry studies have shown that up to as much as 15% of a company's payroll may be over-stated due to fraudulent or inaccurate timekeeping practices.

The NetSecure Timekeeper is a fool-proof, timekeeping system that can work with multiple secure identification technologies such as biometrics, RFID or Smart Cards. It is cheaper than bundy clocks, and it increases productivity and reduces error by generating electronic output that can be exported directly into a payroll system. Attendance records may be viewed anytime and anywhere from a web browser.
The NetSecure Timekeeper is usually deployed in a kiosk chassis for use or a large number of users. Existing employee ID's using barcode, magnetic stripe or RFID technology can be integrated with biometrics for verification purposes.
For simpler requirements of small offices, the off-the-shelf NetSecure Lite series of products can monitor and keep track of employee attendance using their fingerprints as a replacement of the bundy clock. It does not require a PC to operate and can just be mounted on the wall. Data can be extracted over the network or through USB flash drives.

Physical Access Control
Physical access to confidential or sensitive areas of your company can be controlled by fingerprints. The off-the-shelf NetSecure Lite products can be integrated with electric doorlocks to open or close them based on the identity of the person. Fingerprints, RFID and PIN entry are supported.
